Student Voices Spark City-Wide Anti-Bullying Campaign: “Kindness Is Key” in Latrobe City
We’re thrilled to share some exciting news from our recent Stand-Up Project anti-bullying workshops held in May!
Thanks to the creativity, leadership, and compassion of local students, Latrobe City Council has officially adopted one of the ideas generated during the sessions — and together, we’re proud to launch the “Stop Bullying, Kindness Is Key” campaign across Latrobe City.
This initiative is a powerful example of how student-led bullying prevention and Upstander education can spark real social change in communities.
A Student-Led Movement Against Bullying
The campaign was born directly from the voices of young people who participated in The Stand-Up Project’s school bullying prevention workshops. During these sessions, students explored the causes and impacts of bullying, developed Upstander strategies, and discussed how kindness, empathy, and leadership can shape a safer school and community culture.
Their insight and ideas impressed local leaders so much that the Council decided to take action — transforming a student concept into a city-wide anti-bullying initiative.
Where You’ll See the Campaign
Throughout Term 4, the “Kindness Is Key” message will be featured across the region, including:
🌆 Billboards across Latrobe City
📻 Radio advertisements
📺 TV screens at Latrobe City Libraries
🏋️ Latrobe Leisure Centres screens
These public messages encourage everyone — students, parents, and community members — to stand up against bullying and to promote kindness, inclusion, and respect.
Celebrating Student Voice, Agency, and Leadership
This campaign is more than a media message — it’s a reflection of student voice and agency in action. It demonstrates what happens when we empower young people to take the lead on bullying prevention, mental health awareness, and positive school culture.
The Stand-Up Project is proud to partner with schools and councils across Australia to amplify these voices and promote student-designed, student-delivered Upstander programs.
To everyone who took part in the Latrobe workshops — thank you. Your ideas have made a real impact, and your message of kindness will continue to reach thousands of people.
Share the Message: Kindness Is Key
To help schools and families celebrate this incredible milestone, we’ve created digital posters and social media tiles you can use to spread the message. Let’s continue to remind everyone:
Stop Bullying. Kindness is Key. 💛
