The Stand-Up Project has submitted feedack to the Federal Government’s Anti-Bullying Rapid Review - because we can, and must, do better.
This isn’t just something we care about - this is what we have dedicated our lives to.
At The Stand-Up Project, we work with schools across the country to tackle bullying by shifting school culture, not just rewriting policies. Every day, we hear from students, families, and teachers who want to act - but often don’t know how.
Bullying is a form of power that can be exerted over a young person, a teacher, or even a parent. If our responses don’t consider these power dynamics, we risk missing the point.
At SUP, we don’t use labels like “bully” or “victim.” These terms can be disempowering. Instead, we focus on building agency - so that young people feel equipped to act, not defined by what happened to them.
When students are empowered, they often come to see bullying not as something that defines them - but something they overcame.
The Stand-Up Project’s submission focused on prevention. On listening to students. On equipping young people, their families, and teachers with practical, constructive strategies.
Because if we’re serious about reducing bullying, we need to do more than react - we need to understand the power dynamics driving these behaviours, and how we can use power differently: To promote visible kindness. To amplify voice. To co-create behaviour expectations - instead of imposing them.
We need schools where the response to bullying isn’t just punishment - it’s community.
We hope this Review leads to action. Real, lasting change. And we hope student voice is at the heart of it.
